neil-gaiman:

Do you have any advice on naming characters?

Try not to be too obvious. (I have a tendency to be too obvious in naming.)  But bear in mind that people in real life can also often be obvious when it comes to names - google “nominative determinism” and you’ll see what I mean.

Find out what names mean.

Go with your gut - if a character turns up with a name, that’s probably the character’s name. If not, and you have a character to name, you can do what I do, which is take everything you run across, turn it upside down and shake it and wonder if it would make a good name. (“He could be Mister Morrison Tablecloth. Is that a good name? Probably not.”)
