krisnoel-lionhead:

I know every once in a while, it can be difficult to stay on the right track. It’s easy to think that you’re wasting your time or that none of your hard work is worth it. I think everyone creative has these thoughts on occasion and they can be absolutely destructive when it comes to your work. These tips usually help me—

  • You obviously wanted to be a writer for a reason. You think about your story and your characters day and night. You dream about being published or having other people read your work. Writing offers you something that nothing else does. Don’t ever give it up if it’s something you love doing and if it makes you feel happy.
  • There’s a story inside of you that only you can tell. Sure your story might be similar to someone else’s, but they will never be able to tell it the same way you do. You have a unique perspective that can’t be copied. No one will ever be able to tell your story the same way, so keep writing.
  • There’s nothing more satisfying than someone enjoying something you wrote. If it’s fan fiction or something you just posted online OR your actual published book, it feels good to get positive feedback. I know there’s a chance some of it might be negative, but still—people are reacting to YOUR work. That’s incredible.
  •  Once you finish something, you’re one step in front of a whole bunch of writers. A lot of people start something only to never finish it or revisit it again. Finishing is a huge step you should be proud of. If you continue to work hard, you’ll be able to take it to the next level.
  • If you keep working hard, one day it will all come together for you. I know this is hard to promise, but a lot of writer’s give up. The ones that succeed are the ones who never give up. Take advice and improve yourself and I’m confident it will work out. You just have to be willing to work at it.
